“What Medical Justice did for me was something my med-mal carrier could not do: it made me no longer fear my patients.”

– J. Crutchfield, M.D., FACS
How Does Medical Justice Prevent Malpractice Claims

What are the goals of the plan?

Medical Justice is a proprietary, potent, and proven complement to traditional malpractice coverage to assist physicians of all specialties in taking a proactive stance against frivolous medical malpractice litigation by deterring meritless cases & holding proponents of frivolous suits accountable.

Once you become a plan member, Medical Justice®™ will provide your office with proprietary, proactive templates, which are licensed for use with your patients. Coupled with Early Action services, in the event you are named in a suit, Medical Justice®™ works to seek early dismissal from a meritless case. Lastly, should the case continue to trial and you ultimately prevail, Medical Justice®™ will potentially pursue / allocate funds for any counterclaim/countersuit that may be filed against any or all of the proponents of a frivolous case, up to $100,000.

Medical Justice offers protection from claims related to medical events occurring before and after doctors become plan members. Retrograde protection is available, covering 1 year or 10 years of prior events. Medical Justice also offers protection for open and pending cases.

“I am a general surgeon in a small hospital and was called when a colleague operating on a shoulder had avulsed a branch from the axillary artery. Imagine the stress of finding a small incision with a clamp on the artery in a lady whose shoulder is now disarticulated. I repaired the artery saving her extremity. Two years and 51 weeks later a letter arrives threatening suit against me, the other surgeon, and the hospital. Why? I guess for saving her arm which is fine.
Within two weeks of Medical Justice’s involvement the lawyer tells my carrier he won’t be suing me. What a relief.”

– S. Elerding, M.D., eMerit

“I am very happy with your support and services. I can now practice good medicine with peace of mind.”

– Dr. R. Hinojos, Family Practice

We are the doctors and lawyers dedicated to safeguarding your practice.

In 1998, Founder and CEO Dr. Jeffrey Segal developed the concept of Medical Justice while practicing neurosurgery. His vision is a unique approach that forms part of our two-pronged strategy: to deter the filing of frivolous medical malpractice lawsuits and to enable viable responses and remedies from wrongful suits against physicians.

Dr. Jeffrey Segal, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Medical Justice, is a board-certified neurosurgeon. In the process of conceiving, funding, developing, and growing Medical Justice, Dr. Segal has established himself as one of the country’s leading authorities on medical malpractice issues, counterclaims, and internet-based assaults on reputation. Dr. Segal holds a M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine, where he also completed a neurosurgical residency. Dr. Segal received his B.A. from the University of Texas and graduated with a J.D. from Concord Law School with highest honors.

Michael J. Sacopulos, JD, assisted in developing the critical legal underpinnings of Medical Justice when the company was in its infancy. His core expertise is in medical malpractice defense and third party payment disputes. Attorney Sacopulos joined the Medical Justice team formally in 2004 and assumed the role of General Counsel.
